Bishop Roger & First Lady Marie Thomas

Roger Thomas was born on December 31, 1951 in Valdosta, GA and was the third of five sons born to the late Ralph and Bernell Thomas. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in April of 1971 and he retired in May of 1992 in the rank of Master Sergeant. During his tenure in the Air Force, he was blessed to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ across the United States and several countries abroad. Through his ministry, many souls were saved and won to Christ, especially while serving in the Persian Gulf during the 'Gulf War' in 1990-1991. Pastor Thomas accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in June of 1969, the same year he graduated from high school. He was called to the ministry in 1973 in Goldsboro, North Carolina, under the ministry of Bishop Nelson Major Midget who was the pastor of Pentecostal United Holy Church of America. In January of 1989, Bishop Charles E. Blake appointed him pastor of Friendly Temple Church of God in Christ (formerly known as Victorville COGIC). Through Pastor Thomas' leadership, Friendly Temple's ministry has grown from 30 active members to over 1000. Pastor Thomas gives all the glory to God for the many souls that have been brought into the kingdom through his ministry. In 2001, Pastor Thomas received an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Tuskegee Bible College in Tuskegee, AL. Dr. Thomas has been married to the First Lady of Friendly Temple, Evangelist Joyce Marie Thomas, since 1973. They are the proud parents of their four children; Lena, Corey, Roger Jr., and Rashaun, and they have ten wonderful grandchildren. Dr. Thomas firmly believes that no one will ever experience true peace until they develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He believes when a person accepts Jesus Christ into their heart by faith, that person becomes a child of God according to Romans 10:9, 10. Dr. Thomas is a man who loves God, his family and the people of the Lord. He is truly an anointed and appointed "Man of God" who is making a difference in and outside the Kingdom of God- for such a time as this. Recently, God has blessed Dr. Thomas to be elevated to the sacred office of Bishop. On November 13th, 2016, he was officially consecrated during the 109th COGIC Holy Convocation Service of Episcopal Consecration & Installation by the Presiding Bishop & Chief Apostle of the Churches of God in Christ, Inc., Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr.
